Fjällräven was born out of one man’s vision: a vision to make nature obtainable to even more individuals. Åke Nordin was birthed in Örnsköldsvik, on Sweden’s High Shore, in 1936.
Integrating rolling hills, deep forests and also sheltered coastline it was the perfect play ground for a young, curious Åke. And also it was on among his many adventures that the seed for Fjällräven was grown, deep in Åke’s mind. The concept occurred out of need: to develop a backpack that engulfed equipment, but sat comfortably on his back. Åke knew there have to be a way. With his mom’s stitching machine and his dad’s tools, Åke developed a wooden-framed backpack in his cellar. And also with it, the seed was planted. One decade later on, in 1960, because same basement, Åke founded Fjällräven and introduced his very first item to buy. Think what is was? Yep, a backpack; this moment with an aluminium framework. Throughout the 1960s as well as 70s, sustained by Åke’s persistent idea that there should constantly be a way– an useful option– the Fjällräven product array increased substantially, with camping tents, resting bags, coats and pants. The Greenland Jacket, the Expedition Down Jacket as well as the Kånken knapsack proved to be defining items. Practically every other Swede, from passionate traveler to enthusiastic nature lover, put on as well as relied on Fjällräven.
The 80s as well as 90s were even more concerning geographical development. Trekking via nature, going gradually, lugging every little thing you need on your back while enjoying every action, shouldn’t just be something for Swedes. Initially we increased throughout Scandinavia, after that better afield in Europe. Yet it wasn’t sufficient for Åke to just offer the garments and equipment to venture out in nature. His dream was to in fact allow people to go out there. He desired even more people to hike with the wilderness; because the more people experience nature, the more likely they are to look after it. As well as again, he recognized there should be a way. His dream became a reality in 2005 with the launch of Fjällräven Classic: a 110km-long trip with northern Sweden. As well as with nature being so essential to us, below at Fjällräven, we’ve placed increasingly more focus on lasting advancement; to establish on nature’s terms. Given that the new millennium, we’ve released Eco-Shell, our Down Promise and also the Fjällräven Means– our Code of Conduct. After that in 2017 we became very classic.
We went back to where Åke first drew ideas, the Swedish hills, to develop our alpinism collection: Bergtagen. And currently, in 2018, we’re reviewing that very first defining product, the Greenland Coat as well as the collection it forged, to develop Greenland Updated. Yet whether we’re looking forward, backwards or sidewards for inspiration, we’re always relocating towards an usual goal. Enabling and motivating even more individuals to experience nature was Åke’s vision and we now make it our objective. Nature remains in our DNA. We just can not differ it. Without it, we ‘d be absolutely nothing. It is our past, present and also future. It’s our for life.
